THC & CBD

The plant contains over 500 chemical compounds.  104 cannabinoids have been identified as of 2014. Cannabinoids work with the cannabinoid receptors of human cells.

The two main Components are THC and CBD. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary psychoactive compound. Cannabinol and cannabidiol (CBD) are non-psychoactive. CBD is known for its non-psychoactive qualities with a range of medicinal uses.

The Entourage Effect

The cannabinoids add what is known as the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect is the concept that the combined cannabis is more significant than the sum of individual cannabis chemical components. Cannabinoids have shown to affect a large number of pathological conditions including cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, reproductive, gastrointestinal, liver, lunch skeletal, psychiatric, and cancer diseases. They do this through the Endocannabinoid system.  The Endocannabinoid system controls some of the most critical life functions including the immune system, memory, appetite, sleep pattern, mood and pain sensation.

The focus of the medical use of cannabis currently include, but are not limited to:

  • Epilepsy;
  • Anxiety;
  • Stress;
  • Chronic pain;
  • Palliative care;
  • Chemotherapy-induced nausea;
  • Appetite stimulation;
  • Muscle spasticity;
  • Alzheimer;
  • Parkinson Disease;
  • Bronchodilation; and
  • Glaucoma treatment.

The most serious problem affecting the medical cannabis industry is the lack of research.

Indica (High CBD)

Cannabis Indica plants are generally short, bushy plants with broad leaves. Indica plants tend to grow faster and have a higher yield than the Sativa variety. The CBD compound is more elevated in Indica plants, and it has lower THC counts.

Indica Medicinal Qualities include

  • Increased mental relaxation
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Decreased nausea
  • Decreased acute pain
  • Increased appetite
  • Increased dopamine
  • are best used for night time use

Sativa (High THC)

Cannabis Sativa plants are the opposite of the Indica strains. They tend to grow tall and thin with narrow leaves. They are a lighter shade of green, take longer to develop,  and require more light.

The significant qualities of Sativa medicinal strains include:

  • anti-anxiety
  • anti-depressant
  • treats chronic pain
  • increased focus and creativity
  • increased serotonin
  • for daytime use
